Wooster Is America's Premier College For Mentored Undergraduate Research

Wooster offers an excellent, comprehensive liberal arts education, culminating in a rigorous senior project, in which each student works one-on-one with a faculty mentor to conceive, organize and complete a significant research project on a topic of the student's own choosing. Through this distinctive program, every Wooster student develops abilities valued by employers and graduate schools alike: independent judgment, analytical ability, creativity, project-management and time-management skills, and strong written and oral communication skills.

The Results Speak For Themselves
  • 96% of Wooster graduates are employed within 6 months of receiving their diplomas.
  • 91% of Wooster grads are accepted in their top choice graduate school including Columbia, MIT, and Carnegie Mellon.
Wooster Does It Best

Every year since 2002 U.S. News has asked college presidents and deans to name schools with outstanding undergraduate research opportunities and senior capstone programs, only two schools have made both lists every year: Wooster and Princeton.

Distinctive Spirit

Spend some time on Wooster’s campus and you can’t help but notice that there’s a distinctive spirit here.

Where else would almost 1,000 people turn out on Homecoming… to watch a cricket match? Or work all night to fill the iconic Kauke Arch with snow? Or treasure an uneaten Tootsie Roll as a badge of distinction and achievement?

A third of Wooster students perform in at least one musical ensemble, a third compete on a varsity team, and one quarter participate in theatre or dance. In all, there are more than 130 student organizations from which to choose.

A Vibrant Local Community

The City of Wooster is a vibrant community of 27,000 with a strong, diversified economy, a downtown full of great restaurants and shops, national chains like Starbucks, Panera, Chipotle, and Kohl’s, and easy access to outdoor recreation opportunities. Money magazine has named Wooster one of the best places to live in the U.S., “with a thriving culture and diverse economic opportunities.”

Financial Aid

We understand that families are often curious, and may be overwhelmed, when it comes to projecting college costs. This is why it is our goal to provide information to applicants and their families about how to make college more affordable.  Wooster is particularly fortunate to have incredibly successful and loyal alumni who donate generously, allowing us to provide surprisingly large aid awards.

This year, for example, more than 80% of our students received some assistance.  Over $50 million of this aid takes the form of merit scholarships and need-based grants that are offered to students without any repayment obligation. Other major forms of financial aid available to Wooster students includes over $7 million in loans and $1 million in campus employment opportunities.  The average financial aid package for 2021-22 was over $47,000.

And don’t forget, our generous merit scholarships reward your hard work and academic achievement and are guaranteed for all four years.

Early Aid Estimator

We offer current high school seniors the opportunity to receive an estimate of their eligibility for merit scholarships and need-based aid.  It’s quick, easy and free. Most of the information needed to complete the Early Aid Estimator can be found on your high school transcript (for merit aid estimate) and your parents’ 2019 federal tax forms (for need-based estimate). With this information the Early Aid Estimator can be completed in less than 10 minutes!

Complete the Early Aid Estimator online  by November 1. We will evaluate the completed information you submit and provide a customized estimate of your financial aid eligibility at Wooster.
